About San Mateo County
When many hear “Silicon Valley”, they picture buildings full of software engineers in cubicles, but that mental image doesn’t do the area justice. Yes, there are many forward-thinking “brains” and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley, but a big reason so many CEOs opt to locate their headquarters here is the area’s incredible scenic beauty. “Techies”, biotech employees, and savvy visitors recognize that the San Mateo County/Silicon Valley area is among the world’s most scenic. With 30 miles of San Francisco Bayfront and nearly 60 miles of Pacific Ocean waterfront, the area has spectacular views. This biotech/high tech hub has over 70% of its land designated as dedicated open space. In addition to the Pacific and Bay views, the area boasts endless hiking and biking trails, a National Historic Landmark (Filoli Mansion and Gardens), giant redwoods, restaurants featuring locally grown produce, endless activities and world-class museums.
“Silicon Valley” conjures up images of wealthy “dot commers” who want a high-end lifestyle. From Teslas to high-end hotels, the area never disappoints. The spectacular Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay is perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific and abuts the 36- hole Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The all-inclusive Clement Hotel in Palo Alto provides luxury accommodations that include personal assistants, living rooms with fireplaces, and all meals. Just a short distance away is the Four Seasons Silicon Valley, where guests may experience the spa, rooftop pool dining at Quattro. Two new additions to the luxury market join these hotels and the upscale Nobu Hotel Epiphany: The Pullman Hotel in Redwood Shores and the AC Hotel San Francisco Airport/Oyster Point Waterfront. Guests may rent a luxury car at Sixt, explore the Coastside or Bayside, wine taste or indulge at one of the numerous award-winning restaurants in the area.
Some California visitors hop all over the state to experience what makes California famous, heading north for giant redwoods, south for Pacific beaches and movie sites, to San Francisco for Bay views, and north to the traditional “wine country”, but they can experience everything “California” in San Mateo County/Silicon Valley—everything but snow sports, that is. With nearly 90 miles of Pacific Ocean beaches, San Mateo County offers kayaking, deep-sea fishing, whale watching, tide pooling, and elephant seal tours. Numerous movies, TV shows, and advertisements have also been filmed here. Sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing are all available on the San Francisco Bayside, as is a ferry to San Francisco. Looking for giant redwoods? We have them. Seeking a big campus event? Stanford is right here. And, if you’re looking for wine tasting, we have great vineyards and tasting rooms.
San Mateo is “everything California”.
